Mitchell Technical Institute to Continue Two-Year Programs in Yankton for Fall 2010 

Mitchell Technical Institute (MTI), in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Labor and the Regional Technical Education Center (RTEC) of Yankton, has announced plans to continue the James Valley Displaced Worker Initiative for a second year. The joint project began in September 2009 to provide credit-based instruction from MTI to address the needs of displaced, unemployed and underemployed workers in the Yankton area seeking career retraining. The pilot program has been successful and demonstrated the community interest for MTI classes offered at RTEC.

Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Course to Begin in September/October 2010!


If you're hoping to update your skills or would like to launch a new career in the machine tooling field, the Computer Numeric Control Operator Basics course beginning at RTEC in the fall of 2010 will help you meet your goals. The course, offered in partnership with Northeast Community College Business & Industry training, is expected to be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from from 4:30 - 9 p.m. Apply today - dates will be finalized soon!

New Upgrade Class With AWS Certification Begins in September 2010! 


If you are interested in becoming a certified welder, this 40-hour training program being offered at RTEC this summer is the class for you. This special training is recommended for individuals interested in enhancing their current welding skills so they can earn American Welding Society (AWS) Certification.

 The primary welding processes in this advanced program are GMAW or wirefeed welding and SMAW or stick welding. Upon successful completion of this class, the student will have the opportunity to test for an American Welding Society Certification stating that they have become an AWS certified welder.

BHSU Offers Advanced Manufacturing Technology Degree in Yankton 


Beginning in the fall of 2009, Black Hills State University (BHSU) has had a full-time representative on-site to help students interested in pursuing the new two-year Advanced Manufacturing Technology degree at the Regional Technical Education Center (RTEC) in Yankton.

Lisa Wittenhagen, an Admissions Counselor/College of Business & Technology, will help interested students with their enrollment, admissions and financial aid questions in addition to serving as an adjunct faculty member. She will spend some time traveling to regional high schools and college fairs, but Wittenhagen is generally available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

RTEC Offers Skill Improvement Welding Classes


Whether you've been welding on the job for several months or for many years, RTEC's 20-Hour Skill Improvement Welding Training can help you upgrade your welding skills.

During this training program, a variety of options are available. Simply choose the area or areas that best suit your needs. Then you'll be able to use the classtime to brush up on that particular skill, learn new welding positions or even explore different types of welding. You can even get a feel for the lost art of torching and stick welding.

Pipe Welding Classes Offered at RTEC


A special training program designed to instruct students in pipe welding has been added to the RTEC welding training lineup.

This 40-hour training program will instruct students in welding safety of the Shield Metal Arc Welding process (SMAW-Stick), proper techniques and electrode selection for welding pipe to meet American Petroleum Institute (API) welding qualifications or American Welding Society (AWS) certification standards.
